Our History

Village United Methodist Church was the first church in Hot Springs Village.  It
was organized on August 29, 1973 under the leadership of Rev. James F. Richardson.  Charter members met in a room at the Callela fire station and acquired the name “The Firehouse Gang”.  Planning for construction of the church began in 1975 and on February 11, 1976, 150 attended the ground breaking ceremony.  The first worship service in the new facility was held February 6, 1977.

Our Purpose & Mission

The Purpose of Village United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ by feeding the soul with spiritual, physical and emotional support.
Our Mission in 2015 is to expand our outreach in the community; taking specific actions to connect all generations in a Spirit filled church by honoring our past while preparing for the future.

How Can I Get Involved?

What if I am new to the church?

There are many ways to get involved in  activities and service through Village UMC. Village UMC is known for it’s welcoming atmosphere. We would love to have you stop by and visit with our staff about your interests and your faith journey. We will be happy to give  you a tour of our church and talk to you about your specific needs.

Curb-Side Angels

A group started by the United Methodist Men of our church, they are the front line for our Sunday morning worship. When you arrive by pulling under the portico the Curb-Side Angels will open your door and greet you with a warm smile. They will be happy to assist you as you exit your vehicle and open the door to help you enter the church. This is a great way to start your day.

One of the most talked about aspects of Village United Methodist is how comfortable our members make visitors feel when they step through the doors of the church. It is a place where friends meet. Our greeters are truly glad to see you and will assist you with your personal needs.

The usher team at Village United Methodist Church fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

Adult Classes

Nurturing Team

Many of us are unable to be totally self-sufficient at some point in our lives. The Nurturing Team recognizes this and provides help by offering transportation to and from medical facilities, picking up prescriptions or  groceries, doing minor repairs around the house and assisting with other problems as they may arise for those of us not able to do this for themselves. This is a very rewarding way to help those who need as well as a way to meet people in the church and the community.

Music Program

If you like to sing or play an instrument this is the place for you. Our Music Director, Randy Lusk is one of the most talented directors in central Arkansas. He directs two choirs and the church band. Not a rock and roll band, an orchestral band including brass, woodwinds, percussion and keyboard. There is always room for one more.

Carol Tyson, our organist directs our hand-bell choir, this a a growing ensemble that brings a new dimension to our services.

Fellowship Team

Our Fellowship Team is an exciting way to meet new friends in the church. They are responsible for organizing our social activities like picnics and potlucks. They can always use help decorating, setting up, serving and cleaning up. Nothing makes people happier than a full stomach and this is where it happens.

United Methodist Women

Our UMW is a 5 star Diamond organization. It is a very active group raising money for mission, their largest event being the annual Ice Cream Social, bringing in thousands of dollars every year.

United Methodist Men

Our United Methodist Men are a vital part of this church. A monthly prayer breakfast is well attended by faithful servants. The Methodist Men are supporters of The Curb-side Angels, The Biker Breakfast, our scout troops and our annual golf outing. Volunteers assist in many ways with Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Paul Bewie Boys and Girls Club. Mission efforts are directed toward the Samaritan Ministries in Hot Springs, Glenhaven Youth Ranch and Wesley Foundation. Join the men on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 8:00am for breakfast.
